Missing a gas safety certificate renewal is more than an administrative mistake.

It can create legal risk, expose you to enforcement action, and weaken your position if a dispute arises.

The priority is to put the problem right immediately.

Arrange the inspection as soon as possible, provide the valid certificate to your tenant without delay, and review why the renewal was missed in the first place.

A robust management system is just as important as the certificate itself.

Many landlords don’t realise that a gas safety certificate can be renewed up to two months before it expires without affecting the renewal cycle.

Planning ahead gives you valuable time to deal with access issues, engineer availability and unexpected delays before compliance becomes a problem.

If you’ve missed a renewal, don’t ignore it or hope it won’t matter.
