So says Tamy Finkelsten Property Investor with TAMNOON HOMES in her recent LinkedIn post.
Tamy went on to say: Three hours with Des Taylor from Landlords Defence… worth every minute. As property professionals, we all know that legislation can be one of the biggest challenges in our industry.
Spending three hours with Des felt like attending an intensive masterclass. My objectives for the session were clear:
✔️ Serviced accommodation and the 90-day rule.
✔️ Planning and change of use – understanding the legislation.
✔️ Council Tax versus Business Rates – knowing where the boundaries lie.
✔️ Applying property legislation to real-life situations.
The timing couldn’t have been better. I was preparing for a Valuation Tribunal appeal relating to the Empty Property Premium while my Business Rates application was still progressing.
Following the session, I implemented several practical actions that Des recommended. The outcome:
• Business Rates status granted.
• The tribunal appeal was no longer required and has been withdrawn.
• A rebate relating to the Empty Property Premium has now been issued.
This wasn’t simply a consultation—it was a deep dive into legislation with practical, actionable guidance. Des Taylor is a true champion of property legislation, and Landlords Defence is an outstanding resource for landlords, property investors and serviced accommodation operators who want to understand the rules rather than guess them.
Thank you, Des. I’ll be sharing a more detailed article soon with the key lessons I took away from the session.
