Unless of course you believe that licensing schemes by councils actually achieve results.  Below is the email the council sent us with the link to make your views known (we suggest very strongly!)

Dear Licence Holder

We are currently consulting on the future of property licensing for privately rented homes in our borough, and we want to hear from you!

While our existing property licensing schemes have made significant progress in improving standards and addressing issues with non-compliant landlords, challenges persist.

To address these challenges, we’re proposing two new borough-wide licensing schemes:

  1. A replacement borough-wide Selective Licensing Scheme for single-family homes.
  2. A borough-wide Additional HMO Licensing Scheme for small, shared homes not covered by mandatory HMO licensing.

Our proposed schemes are underpinned by a fair and firm approach, with increased support for landlords and tenants. We are also eager to recognise and reward best practice. Therefore, we are excited to be proposing a new two-tiered discount for landlords who provide good quality homes based on inspection compliance and accreditation status.

We understand the importance of your role as a licence holder in the PRS, and we value your input in shaping these proposals. Get involved today by visiting our dedicated consultation webpage to read our full report and take part in our survey.

Additionally, we will be presenting our proposals at the upcoming NRLA Barking & Dagenham Landlords Forum Webinar on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at 7pm:  Non-members are welcome to attend and can sign up for a guest membership to join. So, please do come along to learn more about the proposed schemes and share your thoughts.

The consultation closes on Friday 26 April 2024.

If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us by: [contact details removed as the most dangerous thing any landlord can do is contact the council]

Thank you for your time and participation in this process – your feedback is essential in ensuring that the proposed schemes meet the needs of our licence holders!

Kind regards,

PRPL Consultation Team
