New guidance has been issued to agents as the government confirms that most remaining Coronavirus restrictions are to be lifted from July 19, next Monday.

However, and perhaps controversially, the guidance recommends continued use of masks and face coverings.

The update has come from Propertymark and follows statements from the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Health.

The updated guidance is now available for Propertymark members on the association’s website and has been developed with regional executives. It is cross referenced alongside guidance on staying safe and helping to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, published by the Cabinet Office on Monday.

The largest changes come from the number of tasks which no longer need to be carried out remotely as there will be no continued requirement to work from home and employers can start to plan a return to workplaces.

And whilst no social distancing is required between staff, Propertymark says “businesses should consider the risks. If anyone develops COVID-19 symptoms, they should self-isolate immediately and get a PCR test, even if the symptoms are mild.”

Propertymark also says: “Face coverings will not be legally required but they are advisory for agents and clients. It is important that agents are sensitive to vulnerabilities and anxieties that clients and staff alike may have.”

The Prime Minister has already stated that that the government will “expect and recommend that people wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you come into contact with those you don’t normally meet.”

Propertymark’s website also suggests ways in which agents may want to manage staff to minimise the potential impact of absences in the light of the expectation that infections will probably rise. 

This guidance refers to England only and Propertymark says its advice for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be updated when further details have been released.
