damp disrepair

22 Mar 23

After the shocking case of Awaab Ishak who died from damp and mould in his Rochdale Boroughwide Housing-provided home, the Government announced a law that would impose a timescale on councils and housing associations responding to these issues. Now Generation Rent is joining a growing chorus of organisations who want to see the new law extended to the private rented sector (PRS) – despite the PRS being subject to tight regulations anyway. We highlighted previously that councils are quick to fine and punish private landlords who breach rules, but not so quick to see problems in their own housing stock. Expect this issue to roll-on through the year as Awaab’s Law makes its way to the statute book.
